During his time with all of these stations, Josh has taken part in a number of activities outside of the on-air broadcasting, including news-reading, voiceover work, producing adverts, planning local events and much more.
Josh loves chatting to a range of interview guests, whether this is fascinating local residents on the community radio stations, or legendary broadcasters and musicians for Radio Caroline. He has spoken to some huge names in the past, including Jim Carrey, Andy McCluskey (OMD), Nils Lofgren, Paul McKenna, Rick Wakeman, P.P. Arnold, Crissy Rock, John Illsley (Dire Straits), Emperor Rosko, Luke Morley (Thunder) and The Quireboys. Below is Josh's interview with Any McCluskey - one of his favourites to date. It was uploaded on the Radio Caroline YouTube channel, where you can also find a number of other interviews of Josh's.
Josh has been asked to provide voiceovers for a number of occasions and projects. This includes adverts for Radio Caroline, presenter name checks on Caroline Coastal FM, Devon Air Radio and several other community radio stations, and shows promos for Chelmsford Community Radio. At Chelmsford Community Radio, Josh also played roles in the annual on-air Christmas panto during his time there - but he refuses to share the tapes with us!
One of Josh's more regular activities outside of being an on-air presenter is writing and reading the news for the Caroline Coastal 'Local News' bulletin at the top of each hour. In this role, he learnt the many regulations on what to include in a local news bulletin, and how to communicate the stories best in the bulletin,
Josh has been involved in writing, recording and producing a number of adverts for local events, sponsors, and shows including Maldon's iconic 'Soultasia' festival. Similarly, Josh has recorded and produced a large amount of jingles for a range of shows and presenters.
With both Radio Caroline and Caroline Coastal FM, Josh has hosted a number of events, including quiz nights, fundraisers and guest talks. Josh has been involved in organising and planning many of these events too, including weekend broadcasts from aboard the former pirate radio ship Ross Revenge, as well as the above mentioned quiz nights, fundraisers and events. Josh has been a guest speaker at a number of radio related events, including Radio Caroline Support Group meetings and listener get-togethers. On many occasions, he has publicly spoken about the importance of local radio, the history of pirate radio, being a young DJ in the industry, and lots of other topics.
At Caroline Coastal FM and Chelmsford Community Radio, Josh has trained many DJ's, young and old, some with past experience and many with none at all. He has taught them the importance of what you say and when you say it, following formats and rules, including local content, how to utilise your voice best, creating a professional and personal sound, and most importantly, how to have fun in the job!
